5/31/08: Fun in Northeast Oklahoma
Left OKC around with an initial target of Alva by way of I-40 west to US-270 west. Adjusted target enroute to Enid, continued north on OK-8 and OK-58 to east on US-412/60. Sat in Enid for a long time. Cap finally broke and storms went up just east of Ponca City, and I decided to give chase via I-35 north to US-60.
I apparently arrived just after a tornado had been reported (nothing new here). Regardless, I continued east after the storms from behind, watching as they tried to organize wall clouds, sucked up scud, threatened to make funnels, and then occlude and start all over again.
I left the storms around 8:00 PM between Burbank and Pawhuska so I could get back to get to bed in time for work the next morning.
I haven’t chased in northeast Oklahoma in years. Didn’t see any tornadoes, but I did get some neat pictures. And a curious memory that I’m still trying to figure out: Four Osage County Sheriff’s Deputies running from point-to-point with their woo-woo on, presumably storm spotting, but all stopping at the same places, getting out of their cars and yucking it up for a little bit before doing it all over again.
